A technique for estimating corrections to data in statistical astronomy. It is used for removing the effects of diffraction in radio observations and seeing in ground-based optical images, and was used for sharpening the aberrated images from the Hubble Space Telescope before its new optics were installed. The technique is named after its inventors, William Hadley Richardson, an American optician, and the British astronomer Leon Brian Lucy (1938– ).
