An antibiotic, a mixture of ristocetins A and B, from Amycolatopsis (Nocardia) lurida, formerly used to treat staphylococcal infections but now considered too toxic. It induces platelet agglutination and blood coagulation and is used experimentally (and in some diagnostic tests) for this purpose.
