The Royal Commission created in 1867 to inquire into the differences in ceremonial practice in the C of E. Its four reports dealt with Eucharistic vestments (1867), incense and lights (1868), the lectionary (1869), and Prayer Book revision and other subjects (1870). In general the Commissioners recommended that practices that had prevailed for 300 years should be the standard of Anglican usage.
