(1709–94) 1st Baron Rokeby, Church of Ireland archbishop of Armagh from 1765 to his death. Though noted neither for his political activity nor his theological competence, he was a conscientious prelate who promoted clerical residence and discountenanced plurality where this led to pastoral neglect. His main claim to fame is his role as improving landlord and munificent builder. The city of Armagh owes to Robinson not only its observatory and public library but also its urban configuration.
