Born in Waterford, she wrote a number of sentimental novels featuring hot-tempered lords and ladies in Gothic settings, of which Children of the Abbey (1796) was her greatest success. Other works were: The Munster Cottage Boy (1820), The Bridal of Dunamore (1823), and The Castle Chapel (1825).
