A questionnaire designed to measure romantic love, defined in terms of three components labelled affiliative/dependent needs (needing to be with the loved person), predispositions to help (willingness to make sacrifices for the loved person), and exclusivity (desire to be intimately involved with the loved person to the exclusion of others), the scale being specifically designed to distinguish romantic love from liking, which is measured by the liking scale. Both scales were constructed by the US psychologist Zick Rubin (born 1944) and published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology in 1970.
