Quick Reference

A measure of the change in direction of the polarization of an electromagnetic wave due to the Faraday effect. It is proportional to the product of the electron density and the radial component of the galactic magnetic field along the line of sight to the source. If the electron density is known, usually from the dispersion measure of the source, the mean value of the magnetic field can be deduced.
