Painful limitation of shoulder movements in which rotation of the shaft of the humerus is especially affected. It is due to injury and/or inflammation of the muscular and ligamentous tissue that holds the ball-and-socket shoulder joint in place. It is often caused by a sports injury or by repetitive occupational movements, such as operating a lever under tension.
