A printmaking tool, consisting of a spiked wheel, used in some of the 18th-century dot techniques of printmaking such as the French crayon-manner and the English stipple process. The earliest recorded use of a roulette was in 1642 by Ludwig van Siegen, a pioneer of the mezzotint technique.
