Quick Reference

A knot widely used when making a boat or small vessel fast to a post or bollard. It is made by taking a full turn round the post or bollard and finishing the knot off with two half hitches round the standing part of the rope. If there is likely to be much strain on the knot, a better one for the purpose is a fisherman's bend, as a round turn and two half hitches is liable to jam when there is a heavy pull on it.
