US dancer and choreographer. She studied with Sanasardo and performed with his company after which she worked with various groups until she became principal dancer with Tharp's company in 1966. An exceptionally intelligent dancer, combining speed, sensuousness, and vitality with a great refinement of style, she created roles in most of Tharp's work for the next twenty years. During this period she also began choreographing her own work for the Sarah Rudner Ensemble, and has continued to make work, including solos for herself, and duets, for example Necessary Weather (1993 with Dana Reitz). In 1999 she was appointed professor of dance at Sarah Lawrence College. She has also worked in opera, for example choreographing and performing the role of the Dancing Angel in Peter Sellars's 1992 production of Messiaen's Francois d'Assise.
