Author of the Śābarabhāṣya or Bhāṣya, the earliest extant commentary on Jaimini's (Pūrva-) Mīmāṃsā Sūtra, and one of the most important Mīmāṃsaka texts. It provides the basis for the two further commentaries, by Kumārila Bhaṭṭa and Prabhākara (both 7th century ce), which establish the two main Mīmāṃsaka schools.
