A pilgrimage site in the western ghāṭs of Kerala. The focus of attention is the temple dedicated to Aiyappaṉ. Devotees undertake an annual (November–January), 41-day pilgrimage, for the duration of which they should act like renouncers. Participation is open to males (of all castes), and to females who are prepubescent or postmenopausal.
