The name given by M. Luther to those theologians who maintained that the Bread and Wine of the Eucharist were the Body and Blood of Christ only in a ‘sacramental’, i.e. metaphorical, sense. The word came to be applied to all who denied the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
