Japanese architect. He designed the Japanese Pavilion at the Exposition, Paris (1937), but his devotion to Le Corbusier (in whose office he worked from 1931 to 1936) later led to massive concrete structures, often heavily over-emphasized. Among his works thus influenced may be mentioned the City Halls at Hashima, Gifu Prefecture, Japan (1959) and Kure, Hiroshima (1962).
