An English term designating the religious practices and theologies of the Śāktas—those who worship the Goddess (Devī) as the supreme and absolute creative power (śakti). Alongside Vaiṣṇavism and Śaivism, Śāktism has been identified as one of the three great sectarian streams in medieval and later Hinduism. See Devī; See also tantra.
