Ballet in five acts with choreography and libretto by Gorsky, music by A. Arends, and design by K. Korovin. Premiered 10 Oct. 1910 by the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, with Geltser and Mordkin. It is based on Flaubert's novel of the same name and tells the story of Matoh's love for Salammbô, the princess of Carthage who is sacrificing herself to save her city. This was one of Gorsky's most seminal attempts at dramatic realism.
