The regular review of an individual's salary conducted most frequently by the employee's immediate line manager. Salary reviews may involve a degree of negotiation between manager and subordinate and in many cases are based on an assessment of performance. Where the latter is the case, there may be a right of appeal to the line manager's line manager. Salary reviews are an important feature of an individualized system of human resource management in which there is at least the semblance of managing individual employees in accordance with their individual requirements and capabilities.
