The twelfth book of the Sanskrit Mahābhārata. After the war Yudhiṣṭhira wishes to renounce the kingdom, but is persuaded by Kṛṣṇa and others to pursue his kingly dharma. He proceeds to Hāstinapura to be crowned. At Kṛṣṇa's urging, the dying Bhīṣma addresses a wide-ranging and extensive discourse on religion, ethics, dharma, and cosmology to the king, much of it contained in a sub-parvan, the Mokṣadharmaparvan (‘The Book of the Universal Principles leading to Liberation’).
