scaling analysis

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

The analysis of a physical problem in which the terms in the equation describing the problem are expressed in powers of dimensionless units. This enables the orders of magnitude of terms to be estimated, which allows simplifications to be made by dropping very small terms. Scaling analysis is used extensively in theories describing phase transitions, disordered solids, polymers, and turbulence.
