Quick Reference

A membrane protein (SREBP cleavage-activating protein, 1277 aa) that escorts SREBPs from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi, where they are cleaved by site-1 protease to release their transcription factor domain which activates genes for lipid synthesis. If sterols are present this transport is blocked, providing a feedback control for lipid synthesis.
