[C. H. T. Schreger (1768–1833), German anatomist] Broad light and dark bands visible under a light microscope that run obliquely from the amelodentinal junction through the inner two thirds of the thickness of the enamel (mantel enamel). They are an optical phenomenon caused by the undulating and wavy pattern of the enamel rods. They are curved with the convexity facing apically.
