The official school of New York City Ballet. It was founded in Hartford in 1933 by Balanchine, Kirstein, Dimitriev, and Warburg and in 1934 moved to New York. It is now housed in the Juilliard School building of Lincoln Center. Under the artistic direction of Peter Martins, its graduates continue to provide NYCB with the majority of its dancers, and many return to teach in the school. Past members of the faculty have included Danilova, Doubrovska, Eglevsky, and S. Williams.
