A rare autosomal recessive disease (Berardinelli–Seip congenital lipodystrophy type 2) in which there is an almost complete absence of adipose tissue from birth or early infancy and severe insulin resistance. It is caused by mutation in the gene encoding seipin. See lipodystrophy.
