Quick Reference

A device which records seismic information. Usually the term is used to describe the entire system, including amplifiers and means for filtering data and transferring them to magnetic tape or computer disk, but occasionally it describes only geophones. An enhancement seismograph can sum successive hammer impacts or shots fired into one geophone spread in order to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio, and is commonly used in engineering geophysics site investigations.
