poet. In his early years he devoted himself to pagan literature. Later (perhaps after conversion to Christianity), he was ordained priest and lived in a religious community. His great poem, Paschale Carmen, traces the life of Christ from His conception to His Ascension, at all points emphasizing the miraculous.
