(1929–1989), American author, biographer, and playwright, born in Hartford, Connecticut, as George Selden Thompson. After graduating from Yale University, he spent a year in Italy on a Fulbright scholarship. In 1952 Selden began his career as a freelance writer in New York and wrote several plays before he began writing children's books.
