Early Chinese interpreter of Buddhism. Allegedly overcome with pleasure on first reading the Vimalakirtinirdesha Sutra he eventually wrote various essays exalting wordless insight, knowledge without conceptualization and dichotomization, above more mundane kinds of cognitive activity. His work the Zhaolun was seminal in introducing Madhyamika Buddhism to China.
