Systems involving sensory receptors, sense organs, sensory (afferent) nerves, and sensory receptive fields in the brain, that enable sensory perception. The most common sensory modalities are chemoreception (taste and smell), hearing, and vision, but electromagnetic sensitivity, mechanoreception, thermoreception, and time are also important in many animals.
