A body corporate established under the Serious Organized Crime Agency and Police Act 2005 to replace the National Crime Squad, the National Criminal Intelligence Service, and the investigative and enforcement arm of the Customs and Excise. Its role is to prevent, detect, investigate, and prosecute serious organized crime in the UK, with an emphasis on crimes of drug smuggling, people trafficking, and fraud.
