Quick Reference

A protein (suppressor of variegation, enhancer of zeste, and trithorax, 290 aa) that is a specific inhibitor of protein phosphatase 2A and that modifies phosphorylation of histone H3 with effects on nucleosome structure. It has been shown to be involved in the regulation of renal cell proliferation and tumorigenesis. SET mRNA is expressed at much higher levels in developing kidney and in transformed cell lines and expression is markedly reduced in quiescent cells. It is highly expressed in Wilms' tumour. The SET domain is found in a number of proteins involved in embryonic development.
