A sociological term; a set is a small close-knit group of people, e.g., a teenage gang, who behave similarly, have similar values, and mutually reinforce one another to maintain these values and behavior. A setting is the social milieu in the context of which particular behaviors are observed. The combination of set and setting is a determinant of many aspects of social conduct, especially in adolescence, including health-related customs and behavior.
