daughter of Ernest Thompson Seton, whose popular fiction includes the historical romances My Theodosia (1941), about Aaron Burr's daughter; Katherine (1954), about John of Gaunt's wife; and The Winthrop Woman (1958), set in Massachusetts Bay Colony. Dragonwyck (1944) and The Turquoise (1946) are romantic novels set in 19th-century America. Later novels are Devil Water (1962), set in England and Virginia of the 18th century; Avalon (1965), which deals with King Arthur's era and his descendants; and Green Darkness (1973).
