Seyfert's Sextet

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A group of six galaxies in Serpens; also known as NGC 6027. One of the group is a small spiral with a redshift that indicates a recession velocity some 15 000 km/s greater than the rest of the group. This high-redshift member is in fact a background galaxy almost five times as distant as the others, but the sextet has sometimes been cited as evidence for the existence of redshifts not caused by the overall expansion of the Universe.
