Quick Reference

The Jewish Law offers only a shadow of the reality to come in Christ (Heb. 10: 1); it can give only an insubstantial expression of future heavenly promises. The author's thinking here resembles that of the Alexandrian Jewish philosopher Philo, who combined Judaism with Platonic ideas. In the OT the disappearing shadow is a reminder of the transience of human life (1 Chron. 29: 15—David's prayer).
