Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

The use of a vacuum evaporator (q.v.) to deposit a coating of a heavy metal on a submicroscopic particle. The coating is cast at an angle so that metal will build up on one side of the particle and cover the specimen support except in the shadow of the particle. The length and shape of the shadow allows calculation of the dimensions of the particle.
