Prominent scholar-activist of Muslim South Asia. In 1819 he became a follower of the reformer Sayyid Ahmad Barelwi. Together they produced a number of tracts condemning Muslim integration of Hindu rituals and formulating a new practice of Sufism called the Way of Muhammad. He and Barelwi died in the Battle of Balakot (North-West Frontier Province, pre-partition India) during an unsuccessful jihad against Sikh forces.
