A British annual publication, founded in 1948 by Allardyce Nicoll; he was succeeded as editor by Kenneth Muir (from 1966) and Stanley Wells (from 1981). Each volume has a specific theme, and includes critical and scholarly articles along with surveys of current Shakespeare studies. Alternate volumes have included a selection of papers given at the previous year's Shakespeare Conference.
