Quick Reference

A family of proteins (~580 aa) with SH2 and SH3 domains and a tyrosine motif which, when phosphorylated, binds grb2, linking receptor tyrosine kinases with the ras signalling pathway. The shc gene encodes overlapping proteins of 46 and 52 kDa and p66Shc that is involved in signal transduction pathways that regulate the cellular response to oxidative stress and life span. Several shc-related proteins act as adaptors for other growth factor receptors and have different tissue distributions.
