Israeli dancer, choreographer, and composer. He trained at the Jerusalem Academy for Dance and Music, moving to Tel Aviv to join Batsheva Dance Company, where he created roles in works by Naharin and Vandekeybus while additionally studying percussion. In 2002 he moved to London to perform with Jasmin Vardimon's company, creating his first work Fragments in 2003 for which he also composed the music. In 2004 he created Cult, a sextet that revealed his trademark combination of philosophical enquiry and viscerally expressive choreography. In 2007 he was commissioned to expand a single work, In Your Rooms, through three different London performance venues: The Place, Southbank Centre, and Sadler's Wells. His 2009 work The Art of Not Looking Back was created for an all-female cast. Shechter has additionally created work for several companies including Scottish Dance Theatre, Candoco, and Bern Ballet. He has also choreographed for theatre and for the television series Skins (2008).
