Quick Reference

A type of concrete, sometimes reinforced with metal or glass fibre, which is sprayed on to the face of an excavation to form a protective lining and support, usually a few tens of millimetres thick. It is most useful in protecting soft or weak material and can be adapted to suit varying conditions. It is often used in conjunction with other forms of support, e.g. rock bolts and arching.
