A cell with a large central vacuole that displaces the nucleus to one side and produces an appearance (vaguely) reminiscent of a signet ring. May be adipocytes with lipid vesicles, or epithelial cells with mucin vesicles as in signet-ring cell adenocarcinomas (where the number of signet-ring cells correlates with the degree of malignancy).
