(Schnaith, Württemberg, 1789–1860, Tübingen) was Director of Music at Tübingen University from 1817 until his death. His Sammlung deutscher Volkslieder (1827–40) included his settings of ‘Ännchen von Tharau’, ‘Die Loreley’, ‘Morgen muß ich fort von hier’, and ‘Zu Straßburg auf der Schanz’, all of which have become familiar as the accepted versions for singing.
