English mathematical statistician. Silverman was educated at Cambridge U, gaining his BA in 1973 and his PhD (supervised by David Kendall) in 1977. In 1978 he joined the faculty at U Bath, moving to U Bristol in 1993. In 2003 he was appointed Master of St Peter's College, Oxford. Silverman was awarded the Guy Medal in Bronze of the RSS in 1984 and the Guy Medal in Silver in 1995. He was the COPSS President's Award winner in 1991 and was elected FRS in 1997. He was President of the IMS in 2001.
