Tandem repeat sequences that show polymorphism in the number of repeats in different individuals. Since the flanking sequences are the same in all individuals, PCR primers that will selectively amplify the repeat sequences can be used to detect differences in repeat number (length of the amplified sequence). See satellite DNA.
