Quick Reference

A form of jumper's knee in juveniles; a patellar tendinitis. It is an overuse injury most common among elite basketball players who are tall, and have high-riding patellae and elongate tendons. Their jumping and cutting movements subject the tendons to a whip-like action. Often small fragments of bone just below the lower part of the patella are visible on X-rays. Treatment includes reduction or temporary cessation of exercise for some months.
