Quick Reference

A mathematical point at which certain physical quantities reach infinite values. For example, according to general relativity, the curvature of spacetime becomes infinite in a black hole. In the Big Bang theory the Universe was born from a singularity in which the density and temperature of matter were infinite. See also naked singularity.
