Thomas White (d. 1624) left £3,000 for a ‘college’ for the clergy of London, with almshouses attached. The College, transferred from London Wall to the Victoria Embankment in 1886, functioned mainly as a library until 1996, when it was decided to sell the building and divide most of the books between Lambeth Palace Library and King's College, London.
