Ballet in one act with choreography by Ashton, music by Lord Berners, and design by Beaton. Premiered 12 Nov. 1946 by Sadler's Wells Ballet at Covent Garden, London with Fonteyn, Helpmann, and Ashton. It is loosely based on Ouida's novel Moths and is set in 1904 on the beach at Trouville at the height of the Season, where its cast of eccentric characters feign social bonhomie to mask their private desolation.
