A strike in which workers occupy the workplace. Sit-down strikes, sit-ins, or factory occupations are rare events, but when they do take place can be very dramatic. They were an important feature of the unionization drive of the American unions in the 1930s, and there were several notable sit-down strikes in the 1970s in the UK, including those at the Upper Clyde shipyards in Glasgow.
